Why did a doctor get into design?

Journey

I always wanted to be a doctor since I was a kid. The reasons were simple:
It was either that or engineering. I didn't like math, so I chose the other.
I loved biology because it was something I could visualize, map its functions, and explore in detail.
I loved to draw, sing, and dance as a child. I spent every evening of my childhood taking classes in these arts.
I also enjoyed teaching—I would teach my friends in school and college, and even patients in the hospital about their bodies.
During my time as a doctor, I encountered a problem for which there is still no effective medication or sufficient awareness: menopause. There is little research and few good medications available.
I focused on raising awareness and sought to work beyond the four walls of my office.
I joined a women's entrepreneurship program at IIM Bengaluru.
I wanted to build an app for menopause, and I thought I could design it since I understand psychology and art.
I failed. I didn't like my failures. I tried, cried, tried again, and eventually became good at it.
And then there was no going back. I designed a women's health app, and I look forward to becoming a resourceful force to help women again—in some way, in a small way, my way.
